La Candelaria is the main neighbourhood in the city - an historical area with many great sights. The Plaza de Bolivar is the principal square in Bogotá and the colonial architecture in the area is worth taking in. The Cathedral Primada is very grand and has an important history - the first mass after Bogotá was founded was held here in 1538.
Flights to Bogota
If you only have time for one museum it should be the Museo del Oro (Museum of Gold) that houses more than 34,000 gold pieces from the major pre-Hispanic cultures in Colombia. There are also some very informative exhibitions to wander around.
Downtown Bogotá is great for shopping, if you want to enjoy a café or even just to take a stroll around the bustling streets of the city.
Near by are the salt mines of Zipaquira. A good day trip from Bogotá where interestingly there is a cathedral built inside the salt mines. If you want a good view of the city take a visit to Monserrate where you can take the tram up for a panoramic view of Bogotá.
