Panama City
Panama sits at the crossroads of North and South America and the Atlantic and Pacific oceans and is therefore in a most strategic position, for Panama has a canal, a very important waterway connecting the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. The canal was in American hands until 1999 when it went to Panama’s Control. The Panama Canal is probably the most important stretch of water in the world and earns the country huge amounts of money.

Panama has the largest rainforest in the Western Hemisphere outside the Amazon Basin and its jungle is home to an abundance of tropical plants, animals and birds - some of them to be found nowhere else in the world. Bananas is one of Panama’s main crops, and are exported all over the world, especially to Europe. Tourism is not yet one of Panama’s main sources of income but it is developing quickly. It is a small and varied country where it possible to visit not only two different oceans in a day, but to be able to combine the unrivalled natural beauty of white sand beaches, rain forest or mountains and valleys with a wide range of cultural experiences including Indian tribes, Afroantillian and Spanish Colonial culture, many historic monuments and a centuries World Heritage Site called Casco Antiguo. In recent years the North Western and North Eastern regions of Panama have added increasing amounts of facilities for vacation activity because of their beaches, temperate and
tropical rainforests along and the surfing areas of the west coast which are now huge tourist draws. Accommodation of all types is available ranging from simple style hostels or pensions to five star luxury resort properties.
